Charging the Thermal Mass
Over these two days, both buildings were able to start collecting heat again. The Andy Shack catches up to the Dave House South and even slightly overtakes it in the afternoon, although this is somewhat of a hollow victory since the Dave House South keeps warmer during the night when the heat is more appreciated. The spike in the Dave House South temperature was caused by sunlight hitting the probe. In order to standardize further measurements and to avoid future spikes, all of the probes were placed at standard observing height (5’) and, if necessary, shaded from morning or afternoon sun. To continue the tests on the sol-air measurement, the white plate was tilted to the same angle as the black plate and they were placed side-by-side. This eliminates the difference in the lows (although the night of the 6th was significantly different). However, the black plate reaches a much higher temperature than the white plate, and leads me to believe it is a better indication of the sol-air temperature during the heating season.
