Dave House North

Recently, the first of two buildings featuring the Double Play system was completed in the Zomeworks yard. The building is 263 square feet with 335 square feet of radiator on the roof and has spray foam insulation in the walls, fiberglass insulation behind the roof, and a gypsum concrete floor. Using Snap Cap roofing panels as the radiator, the building thermosiphons heat from the interior and radiates it to the night sky. The large amount of water used for the thermal storage and good insulation allows the building to maintain a comfortable temperature range through several days of unfavorable weather.

Using HOBO data loggers, the temperature inside the building can be continuously monitored and compared to the second, incomplete building as well as the Andy Shack, a Double Play building using SkyMats as radiators. The ambient temperature as well as the white plate temperature (the temperature the radiators would reach without the additional heat supplied by the water) were also recorded.
