Introduction
Zomeworks, a research and manufacturing company, has developed ways of using space, water and sunlight that have produced dozens of patents and products over the last thirty-eight years.
A Philosophy of Discovery
Research Method
The essence of common subjects often
escapes scientific attention, yet is revealed to the excited amateur.
Success comes to those ready to leap without shame on accidental
discovery. A workshop, kitchen or junkyard may be better for exploring
mysteries than the laboratory where clear thought is clouded by
theories.
Space
The Thirty-one Zone Truss, US Patent number:
3722153, is now manufactured as a structural modeling kit by Zometool,
Inc. in Boulder, Colorado. A lack of respect for the conventions of
crystallography brought this remarkable system forth from initial work
at Zomeworks building playground climbers. Here three dimensions don’t
boil down to north-south, east-west, and up-down. While systems of
cubes neither surprise nor disappoint, these structures springing from
the symmetries of the icosahedron teem with coincidences and surprises.
Water
Water is everywhere, yet it is unusual. Water swells
when it freezes and so ice floats. Heat rises, but not in water around
ice where it sinks to keep fish and frogs comfortable below thick ice.
Conditioning that satisfies fish won’t satisfy men, but it is perfect
for storage batteries. So, using plain water, we now manufacture
thousands of Cool Cells.
Where to?
Industrialists, manufacturers and scientists
have made man so successful he is becoming rude to nature. Let us not
allow this. Engineers and businesses must lead the way to good manners.
With more energy, more experiment and more study man can spread
throughout the universe while being polite to nature at home.
Appropriate industry utilizing science will allow part of the earth to
be left alone. Packing up to leave would show good manners.
Architectural Climate Control
It is time for a fundamental change in how we heat and cool buildings,
time to reduce extravagant burning of fossil fuels. New understanding,
new tools and materials make this possible. No subsidies or elaborate
research projects are required. Zomeworks' Double Play Systems, based
on Zomeworks' Cool Cell™ technology, uses water flowing within the
skins of architectural structures to heat in winter and cool in summer.more Architectural Climate Control info
Hydrogen Venting in Battery Shelters
Zomeworks' patented, convective H2Vent™ pumps potentially explosive hydrogen rich air from battery enclosures - only when it is present and with minimal loss of coolness. The H2Vent™ is passive, automatic, and uses no power.more Hydrogen Venting in Battery Shelters info
