Sunbender® Reflector/Shade
Introduction
The Sunbender® Reflector / Shade is designed to fit any well-built, sturdy curb mount skylight.
During the heating season the Sunbender® Reflector / Shade reflects from 100,000 to 200,000 extra Btu’s per square foot of skylight into the building below. In the lowered summer position, it shades the skylight and greatly reduces heat gain, while still allowing light to enter.
Three Basic Models Available
- Galvanized steel ribs and struts with the standard painted steel mounting brackets and painted steel reflector available in a variety of colors.
- The original aluminum Sunbender with an anodized aluminum reflector now as an option.
- The "Do-It-Yourself" version with galvanized struts, ribs, and the standard painted steel mounting brackets. The Sunbender/Reflector painted steel pan is purchased locally from a local metal roofing supplier. Easily ships via UPS. Saves on shipping costs. (Not pictured.)

In the lowered summer position, it shades the skylight and greatly reduces heat gain, while still allowing light to enter.
General Information
Ten percent of a roof area in skylights with Sunbender® Reflector / Shades is sufficient to supply a large share of the winter heating, while the same area shaded during the summer provides adequate lighting without overheating. The key to the Sunbender’s performance if the adjustable reflector. To allow desirable heat during April, a fixed overhang or clerestory admits unwelcome heat in August. In New Mexico, the Sunbenders are lowered in late April or early May, and raised in October.
